Recent advances in digital publishing and generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) make it possible for us to write and publish your book without charging any fees for writing or book production services.
How Zero Cost Publishing Works
When you enroll in our Zero Cost Publishing program, we work with you to write your book and then publish it through our sister company, Apateon Press. The process starts with a kickoff call, where we discuss the book and learn about your story and message, as well as your goals for the book. We then prepare a book summary and chapter outline for your approval.
We then initiate a series of interviews, following the chapter outline, which produce the raw material for the book. We write the book itself with the assistance of GenAI. We typically send each chapter for review as it is ready. The result is a publication-quality book, published with an industry-standard (Bowker) ISBN number that makes it possible to sell the book in bookstores.
We perform the following processes to produce your book:
- AI-assisted ghostwriting
- Typesetting and book layout
- Cover design
- Promotional and back cover copy
- Securing a Bowker ISBN for the book
- Publishing the book through Apateon Press
- Publishing the book for sale on Amazon.com (Paperback, eBook, or both)
- Writing and distributing a press release announcing the book’s publication
- Creating a “sell sheet” that can be used to market the book to bookstores
Am I Eligible for Zero Cost Publishing?
We are selective in terms of which books we accept for Zero Cost Publishing. We have to believe that the book will sell enough copies for it to be worth the investment of our time in its writing and production. We encourage you to inquire to see if your project fits our Zero Cost Publishing criteria.
The best candidates for Zero Cost Publishing include books by:

However, we are open to considering any book for the program. Ask us.
You Are In Control
This is your book. You retain complete creative control over the process and approval over the finished work. Nothing is published without your approval. You retain the copyright, as well.
We Publish. You Earn.
You earn money through Zero Cost Publishing in two ways:
- You earn a 15% gross royalty on all sales
- You can buy author copies at a 40% discount and sell them

How much money do I make with Zero Cost Publishing?
That is really up to you. The more books you sell, the more you make. Royalties are gross, so you get 15% of the full retail price of the book, e.g., if your book sells for $19.99, you will earn a $2.99 royalty. You can also buy author copies of the book for $11.99 (40% off retail) and sell them for $19.99, earning $7.99 in profit per copy.
If AI is writing the book, will it sound like me?
This is an important issue. We have developed a proprietary method of capturing your voice and prompting our AI tools to write in a style that closely resembles the way you communicate.
Are there chargebacks later for writing and editing services?
No. We do not charge for editing, design, and so forth after the book is published. We do deduct for returns, however, which is standard in the industry.
Will you distribute my book to bookstores?
With the Bowker ISBN, your book is available for retailers to order through Books In Print. This does not necessarily mean that your book will be sold in retailers, however. We do not typically sell Zero Cost Publishing books through retail channels.
Will you market my book for me?
We will execute a public relations campaign when we release your book. We can support you in marketing campaigns, e.g., book signings and so forth, but our marketing activities on behalf of Zero Cost Publishing books are limited in scope.
What does a typical project look like?
A typical Zero Cost Publishing book will be between 35,000 and 50,000 words in length, published in paperback format. It will usually contain somewhere between 10 and 15 chapters.
Is this like vanity publishing?
Zero Cost Publishing is not vanity publishing. We are not a vanity press. Rather, we decide to invest our time in helping you create and publish your book with the goal of earning money through its publication.
How long does the publishing process take?
Allow four to six months for the complete process, though we can more quickly if necessary. The writing process usually requires about 8 hour-long interviews, though we can skip some or all of those interviews if you provide written materials for us in writing the book.

What if I don’t like the book?
If you are not happy with the quality of the book, we will rewrite it with the goal of making it more the way you want it to be. However, if you are still not happy with the results, we will cancel the project at no cost to you.
Is there a minimum number of books I need to order?
No. We do not set a minimum order quantity to qualify for the Zero Cost Publishing program.
Are there volume discounts available?
Yes, depending on your needs, we can offer volume discounts, e.g., for printing 5,000 copies of your book, etc.
