Why Hire Professional Ghostwriting Services?

Why should you hire a professional ghostwriter? In our experience, the number one reason has to do with time. In fact, many of our clients are excellent writers. They just don’t have time to write a book. Additionally, it can be challenging to organize your thoughts into the kind of effective narrative flow you need for a successful book. That’s where we can help.

  • Work with an experienced writer who captures your voice.
  • Turn your ideas into a well-organized, compelling manuscript.
  • Avoid common writing and publishing mistakes.

Our Professional Ghostwriting Process

What does the ghostwriting process look like? Every situation is a little different, but a ghostwriting engagement usually follows a proven path:

  • A discovery process that explores the subject of your book, its business purpose (very important), and your story and voice.
  • Development of a book description and proposed chapter outline. This is a critical step, as it offers the opportunity to forge agreement between you and us about the book’s subject and narrative flow.
  • A series of interviews with you to get the core material for your book. This may be coupled with research into the subject to supplement the interviews.
  • A process of writing and collaboration to produce first drafts of each chapter. Typically, we deliver one chapter at a time for review.
  • Editing, revisions, and final manuscript approval.

Ghostwriting for Business Books

If you are an entrepreneur, coach, consultant, or executive, a well-written book can showcase your expertise and thought leadership. A good ghostwriter will work closely with you to understand your voice and help you land your unique message in print. The resulting book can be a valuable professional calling card that establishes your credibility with key audiences.

Memoir and Nonfiction Ghostwriting

Got an amazing story to tell? A ghostwriter can enable you to realize your vision for a memoir or work of non-fiction. We have worked with authors on a variety of non-fiction projects, including:

  • Addiction recovery books and workbooks
  • Inspirational books
  • Informational and reference works
  • Memoirs

Ghostwriting for Works of Fiction

Are you an author with amazing ideas for novels but need an extra pair of hands to complete the work? The right ghostwriter can translate your story and characters into a compelling work of fiction. With a ghostwriter, you can publish mysteries, YA books, fantasy, and more. This is not the simplest of processes, and the best fiction ghostwriters know how to be “invisible.” They are a conduit for your creativity, not a voice that superimposes itself on your ideas.

From Manuscript to Published Book

Writing your book may be the hardest part of the publishing process, but completing a first draft of a manuscript is really a step toward publication. To get to the finish line, you will also need:

  • Professional editing and proofreading
  • Custom cover design
  • Print and eBook formatting (aka “typesetting”)
  • Publishing and distribution, e.g., through Amazon, IngramSpark, or a traditional publishing house

Why Choose Manuscript Partners?

Why work with us on your book project? We offer a combination of experience and collaboration that delivers books that authors are proud to call their own. Beyond that, we are known for being supportive but direct with our clients. We’re always encouraging, but we have found that it pays to be honest up front about the potential for a book to succeed as well as what a book may need to gain traction with an audience. We will also tell you if we don’t think we are a good fit for your project.

Our services are completely customized. Before we engage with you, we discover what your book project needs and suggest services that will help you achieve your goals. In some cases, we may refer you to freelancers or other service providers. The scope of our work for you will be determined by your requirements. For example, in select cases, we can publish your book with Apateon Press, our sister company. Or, we can publish your book on Amazon.

Frequently Asked Questions

About Professional Ghostwriting Services

How much do professional ghostwriting services cost?

Budgets vary widely for ghostwriting services. If you want to hire a New York Times bestselling author and expect him or her to spend a year on your book, you’re probably going to be spending something in the neighborhood of $250,000. Most ghostwriters charge either by the word or by the hour. A project that takes 200 hours at $200 per hour will cost $40,000. Some writers work on a flat rate basis, with fees ranging anywhere from $10,000 to $50,000. Lower-cost alternatives are available, and some are quite good. The advent of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) offers the potential to accelerate the ghostwriting process while enabling far lower budgets for work of comparable quality to a traditional ghostwriter.

This will depend on many factors, but the process of writing a book with a ghostwriter will take some time. Between interviews, draft writing, and author reviews, it usually takes anywhere from six to 12 months to complete a first draft. Of course, it is possible to move more quickly. With new AI-assisted techniques, for example, you can generate a workable first draft in a month or two. One of the biggest time factors, however, is author review. If you are doing a book, set aside the time to review the ghostwriter’s work.

Copyright ownership in a ghostwriting engagement must be specified in the writer’s contract. Typically, the ghostwriter is creating a so-called “work for hire,” and does not own the copyright on the book. However, you should not assume that this is the arrangement. The same also goes for credit. Many times, the ghostwriter is anonymous, or given a little “thank you” in the Acknowledgements. Again, this is a contractual issue and it pays to be specific to set expectations and avoid conflict.

A good ghostwriter will endeavor to understand your voice as a writer, so the resulting work will sound as if you wrote it.
